Our History
JOHANNES-WENDT AMVETS Post 13 was chartered in1947. It was named after the first two soldiers from Waushara County that were killed in WWII, Lawrence Johannes and Melvin Wendt. The post took the number 13 as there were thirteen original members at the chartering.
Since it’s inception the post, along with the auxiliary, has sponsored a multitude of programs to assist local veterans. Fisheries on Pearl Lake, Boy Scout troops, Thanksgiving dinner baskets for needy veterans, spaghetti dinners and high school scholarships to name a few. Chicken Bar B Ques have been conducted each summer since the 1960’s. The post sponsored bingo once/twice a month for many years from September – May. Funds raised went to many community service projects.
In the mid 1950’s the post purchased a house on Division Street in Redgranite to make it the post’s home, meetings have been held there since.
